Plugin Review: Iframe Embedder

MOAR!!!1!

Prefatory

Like a sweet twitching energy drink induced digital coma, I’ve been trippin balls the entire day with the plugin reviews!

I have had a few requests today – so this will probably be the last – then … MOAR CODING!

Now I’m reviewing Iframe Embedder!

Developer Note: I hate iFrames with a BURNING passion. Sometimes they are needed, but when all parties involved have done things properly – this is not the case.

Iframe Embedder lets you embed an iframe in a post by typing [iframe http://server/page.htm 100% 200px]

You can use % or px as units for width and height. If you omit unit- it will default to px. You cannot omit width and height values. You can use relative paths.

Plugin Review: MapPress Easy Google Maps

Prefatory

This one will be pretty quick. The plugin author(s) did a great job on this one.

I’m reviewing MapPress Easy Google Maps

What is it?

MapPress adds an interactive map to the wordpress editing screens. When editing a post or page just enter any addresses you’d like to map.

The plugin will automatically insert a great-looking interactive map into your blog. Your readers can get directions right in your blog and you can even create custom HTML for the map markers (including pictures, links, etc.)!

Plugin Review: Google Analytics for WordPress by Yoast

Prefatory

Another request is in! Today it’s for Google Analytics for WordPress by Yoast.

So what’s the pitch?

Google Analytics for WordPress is the most complete Google Analytics plugin for WordPress. Of course, you could just copy the tracking code into your theme and be done with it, but then you’d miss a whole lot of features that this plugin has to offer you. All the extra data this plugin can add to your tracking is what makes Google Analytics for WordPress into the most powerful tracking tool you’ve ever seen.

WordPress Security: Passwords Reset

A potential security breach last night prompted a response from the WordPress team to reset all passwords across WordPress.org, bbPress.org and BuddyPress.org

Earlier today the WordPress team noticed suspicious commits to several popular plugins (AddThis, WPtouch, and W3 Total Cache) containing cleverly disguised backdoors. We determined the commits were not from the authors, rolled them back, pushed updates to the plugins, and shut down access to the plugin repository while we looked for anything else unsavory.

I’ve already reset my password as well as changing it to something more secure after the first reset. If you haven’t had a chance to update your information across the mentioned network – please do so.

Another important note is: “if you use AddThis, WPtouch, or W3 Total Cache and there’s a possibility you could have updated in the past day, make sure to visit your updates page and upgrade each to the latest version”.
